Laurie Ahlemann is the Founder of the Long Island Yoga School and the Director of the Prana Shakti Flow Yoga Teacher Training Certification Programs. All programs offered incorporate the VAK (visual, auditory & kinesthetic) learning styles to ensure that all students are able to process the information fully and easily regardless of what their dominant learning style is.
Laurie is also the former owner of Bonda Yoga in Great Neck Long Island and Bayside,Queens. Bonda Yoga had been part of the yoga community for 8 years and she is grateful for the opportunity to have served many people for so long. She has been teaching Vinyasa Flow yoga on Long Island for 15 years and first introduced the Prana Shakti Flow style of vinyasa yoga in 2007. She brings awareness to the wisdom of the body by building upon the anatomical principles of movement. This enables students to take these principles and apply them to all kinesthetic practices. Laurie adapts her teaching methods based on the learning style of each individual she works with. Her intention is to help guide and nurture each student on their life path where ever it is meant to take them.
She is certified at the 500 hour level in the ISHTA yoga style. She attended the Be Yoga/Yoga Works 500 hour certification program in New York City under the guidance of Alan Finger, founder of ISHTA yoga (Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayuveda.) Laurie is also certified in Trauma-based yoga and utilizes these principles in all classes that she teaches. In addition, she took an on-line course in the Yoga of 12 Step Recovery which utilizes the practice of yoga to help overcome addiction.
Laurie is an E-RYT 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) with the Yoga Alliance. In 2004, Laurie created the AHRC Yoga Program for developmentally challenged adults. Later on, she created an in-depth Teacher Training Certificate Program for physical education teachers in the Nassau Boces school districts.
She studied Anatomy and the Philosophy of Breath under Leslie Kaminoff at The Breathing Project and also took the Anatomy Studies for Yoga Teachers course with Jason R. Brown in New York City. Laurie attended a Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Corina Benner of Wake Up Yoga. She studied Raja Yoga Meditation at the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual Center in Great Neck, Long Island and has had a personal meditation practice for over 21 years. These principles are applied in her guided meditation classes. In addition, she is a Reiki Master and a Master/Teacher of Magnified Healing.
